I am looking to upgrade my machine and my graphics card is about 3-4years old. It is a Nvidia 7900 GTX.

I have been getting into some heavy 3d projects. I was wondering if SLI or Crossfire has any advantage or if just 1 good card will suffice.

Card wise, which is better for revit

Nvidia GTX 280

or

ATI HD 4870

Thanks!

Dual card setups are very unlikely to make any difference to using Revit.

Guidance on graphics cards is quite difficult in Revit as there is no official guidance.

The best place to look for advice based on practical experience is in the hardware forum here.

I have had the best experiences with nVIDIA's Quadro FX line of workstation graphics cards. You do NOT need a ton of video memory in Revit. Revit just doesn't make use of it like MAX and other rendering programs do. I recommend a 128MB card with dual DVI connections. My machine is a dual dual-core Xeon workstation (4 processor cores total), very fast, but it just has a 128MB Quadro FX550 graphics card, and it renders quite well with Revit 2009.

First it depends on your budget.

Second if you have the time to wait for Revit 2010 to come out then do wait with choosing one. (providing you have subscription).
