I don't know where to go with this but I've tried any and everything I could think of and I can not get Revit 64 bit to install. I did have it installed twice but it was so unstable I uninstalled and tried re-installing. The first time I got it to install after several attempts. Again very unstable. Then, after uninstalling, it WILL NOT INSTALL! I would have to write a novel here to list everything I've tried, including wiping out the registry, uninstalling all autodesk products and trying to install. Does anyone else have Revit 64 bit on a Dell Precision M90? Wondering if there are compatibility issues here. When installing, I get "This data is invalid" on 5 out of 8 folders. I'm on xp pro64, 150 gb HD, 132 gb free space, 4 gb ram, intel dual core processor.I also did a complete diagnostic with dell tech support. ALL OTHER APPS RUN PERFECTLY on this machine. Please help.
Thanks,
Phil

I have a Dell M90 and I intened to install Revit 64 on it along with Vista 64, like I did on my new desktop. My computer guy told me that the architecture of the processor in the M90 wouldn't let him install Vista 64, only Vista 32. My M90 was one of the first out of the gate so they may have improved it so that it will accept 64 bit, or, he could be wrong..

I would be interested to hear, as I have 4 gb on that machine on my M90 and want to use it to its best advantage.

I've not heard any complaints on Revit 64 bit installs with vista or xp pro64. Believe me I've searched the web high & low. I seem to be the only one having this problem and I just don't know what to do. Keep me posted on your status Good luck Tom.

I'm not sure if you have tried this yet, but if you haven't, maybe you should try:

Do you have full administrator rights on this computer you are trying to install? Even if you have, you could try right clicking the setup file (the one that actually installs Revit) and select "Run as Administrator".

We know sometimes Vista and XP 64 block access to folders and files (even if created by you)...

Also, to give you another example, I have Navisworks installed along with Revit, but the only way to get it working with Revit (showing with the external tools menu inside Revit to be able to export to it) is if I start Revit by right clicking the Revit icon and "Run as Administrator", even if I am the administrator and the only user of this computer... If I don't do it, it doesn't even show the external tools menu...

Thanks Andre but yes I have tried runnung the install as administrator. No luck. I wish I could post everything I have tried here but I'm afraid it would be too long winded and no one would want to read the post.

I have installed it on a M90 no problem, BUT you do not want to install it, I have tested this on several different computers and I've come to the conclusion that using 64 Revit is much slower than 32 if you have less than 6gb of RAM, if you have 6gb or more then 64 is much faster. Since you can't put more than 4gb in the M90 you should just forget about it and stick with 32.

Thanks David. But my main reason for the 64 bit preference was for rendering. Rendering with less than 4gb of ram is not the way to go. Not sure if that was taken into consideration.

I installed 64 on mine right after Revit made their 64 version available, and it works fine. The only thing I had to compare it to was itself with WinXP32 and after doing a clean install (not upgrade) it ran faster but you would expect that with a completely new OS. As David says, there's no real advantage on the M90 since it will only accept a max of (2) 2Gb on the Mobo.
I just finished installing Vista 32 on my boss's M90 and it's not as fast as mine, but I installed it as the upgrade. Start up is considerably longer on his.
Bottom line is that the M90 is fully capable of running Vista 64.

I really don't think it's going to make it any better for you Phil, but if you want to keep trying I would submit a support request, although that never works for this type of situation....best bet may be to reinstall windows

You could try upgrading the Bios on your laptop.
