How would I create a footing step? I'm creating a family that I can place and adjust as needed. Is there a better way? Thanks.

do you mean a step in footing as seen in an elevation view (or cross section)..... if so you may want to do this with profiles. a family can include profiles

Yes, an elevation view. The wall steps from (-4'-0") to (-2'-0"). Can you explain how to use profiles? Right now I'm stuck trying to keep a consistent slope (2:1) when the step height changes.

ok, i tried the foundation wall that is a default...
made a wall 20 ft long and split it at 10 ft
drew in a plan region (plan view) from view menu over one of the walls and changed the ht paramenters in properties this gave me a step foundation visable in an elevation view
you may not need to use profiles if you just add conponents to the wall
profiles are good especially if there is a particular shape that you need
when you add walls above just adust the ht parameters that you need.
also another way to produce steps in a wall is after highlighting the wall in elevation view use the edit profile tool.. this might be easier..however this will not address where the footing is..
i am assuming you are just using a foundation wall just for foundation.
hope this made some sense..
there are several other ways to do this also

I'm trying for something like this...

Use the "join" tool to join the footing and the slab. Make sure the slab and the footing are the same material.

I'm not sure I understand. The footings are below the slab. They are wall footings.

Use a Slab Edge to put that in. Load the profile, and its under Modeling > Host Sweep > Slab edge...

if you are using wall footings, go to edit assembly in edit structure
set the preview to section the sweep are then open to apply a profile
if you stepping down a slope using wall footing i would use this
if just a simple slab use slab or floor for the footing profile
the profiles are little catchy at first but a great help once they are used
the profile you showed is a very common one .
with foundations tho the ground also has to be shown which if you need to model it then you might have to go to combination of solid and void forms.
anyway, i also am looking for best ways on this.

Could someone please post an example that shows how you did what Bryan was showing for the tapered footing example?
