View Full Version : Place column by selecting line

Hi

I have a 3d AutoCAD stick model which I've linked into Revit.

I can place beams by 'Pick Line' & selecting one of the stick lines, but not columns.

Is there a way around this?

If not any idea why it's not an option for Columns? My first impression is that it's a bit of an omission.

Beams are drawn as lines. So you use pick lines and the beam is traced over the line. Columns are placed at points in plan - not drawn as lines. Then the top and bottom are parametricaly related to the levels of the project. It is just that the parametrics of each of the elements has different requirements.

I see.
I also notice that i can't select the vertical lines to place framing members!

Ok, your recommendation please.
The structure is in the form of a geodesic dome with slight variations. All the columns are of different heights. Without measuring them I'm not sure what these heights are.

What would be the best way to model them? Measure the individually & offset the top level from the base level or is there a better way?

You'll need to design a column with an instance parameter at the top so you can stretch it into place.

Ah, yes. I'll give that ago over the weekend.

Thank you.
