Can anyone tell me why my environment map is showing through the geometry of my ceiling? I'm trying to render a city scape background and out of nowhere I'm getting this problem where the bitmap is showing through my ceiling as if it were translucent, but the material properties are not checked for translucency or transparency. Caustics are not enabled, to send or receive either, so I can't figure out why my walls are not solid?!?

I'm using an mr daylight system with a different environment map. I've replaced the mr Physical Sky default with a city scape bitmap. I've cranked up the Output level to 500 and the RGB level to 100 to get the image to render correctly. Check out the attached image to see what I'm talking about.

Can anyone help?

by the way, in the attached image, its kind of subtle to see the problem, but if you look carefully at the ceiling where it meets the window, you'll see the top of the skyscaper showing through the ceiling almost ghost-like. Very odd... I attached the image again, only this one is much brighter and more obvious.

Can you attach a larger version of that render....something at least 640x480....preferably bigger.

Hi,

If you check your environment map in the material editor
bitmap properties, you'll probably find it is set to 'screen'
which means your reflections are coming from behind the
camera as well as the image being in front, hence giving
the 'appearance of see through geometry! Try spherical
and watch it go away. :-)

you're right! it's definitely set to screen! I'll try that when I can get back to my work station later tonight. Thank you!! I'll keep you posted.
