What is the best way to create a canopy. Several roof objects or a family? How have other people created them? Thanks.

Sometimes, I use a generic model family to create wall mounted canopies.
I add parameter dimensions to allow for different type sizes or adjustability.

I decide how to build something in Revit by systematically thinking about what it is.

Since im not sure what type of *Canopy* you mean, it could go a few ways.

If its an awning, or something getting affixed to a wall to cover doorways, i make it a wall hosted family. Since theyre usually purchased as individuals, this works out well.

If its a large structure that were calling a canopy, consisting of a roof, some columns, some soffits, etc... Then i model them out of system families, and will group it if there are more than one.

If it's a simple flat canopy that is either cantilevered off the wall or hanging from wall supports (tension rods) then I'll just do a flat roof object. I also have some face-based and non-hosted families for tension rods and connectors.
