How do I get columns to show in a wall?

I used to know how but I forget

Assuming you have architectural columns with one face aligned with a wall face, and you want the column to show in the elevation, switch to wireframe and use the line work tool on the column, then return to hidden line.

Actually I am trying to get the column to show in plan view

If you want the columns to be separate from the wall, use structural columns not architectural columns. You may need to use Join Geometry to get the line work to show the way you want.
