Hello,
Our company just migrated from Inventor & Vault 2008 to 2009. When I select a file within vault and then select View in Window I get the following error:

File Replication
The file you are attempting to access has not yet been copied to your local server. The file is inaccessible until it has been copied. Would you like to copy the file now?

It doesn't matter if I select Yes to All or No to All I get the the following error message:

An unspecified error occured while attempting to view the file.

Has anyone elese encountered this problem? I am trying to determine if it is a bug or if this is a result of the migration. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The error implies that at one point replication was used, and the files were never completely replicated. Now the server is trying to replicate and can't ping the server where the other files are being kept.

I don't know if this is the case or not, though.

Assuming it's not, I did once see another system that did what you're describing. The users were able to fix it by doing a 'get latest version' on that folder in Vault.

That fixed it in their case.

I hope this helps!

Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan,
I tried your recommendation, unfortunately it not resolve my problem. What do you mean by replication. I thought that once I detached the vault then uninstalled Vault/ADMS 2008 and installed VAULT/ADMS 2009 that when it found the old database it migrated it to 2009 or is this something entirely different.

Replication is used when there is a central database but two servers in separate locations hold copies of the Filestore. You actually have to be running Productstream to have access to replication, but the error does appear to be a replication error.:screwy:

The database (which is faster to read) is kept centrally. The remote clients read that database, but 'replicate' the filestore to the remote locations (typically, but not always, nightly).

In that way, the remote database tells vault where to get the files from the local server, which reduces the time to open because now you're not opening across a WAN.

As for other thoughts on your actual issue, I'm not sure what's causing it since it doesn't appear that replication is a factor.

Have you tried one of the following?
1) Get a previous version? (Perhaps only the current version is hosed.
2) Restore a backup and migrate again? Drastic I know, but it's the next thing that comes to mind.

Hi Jonathan,
I was able to fix the problem by detaching and deleting the migrated vault then restoring the backup prior to the migration (2008 vintage) within the ADMS 2009 console. Now everything works as expected. Thanks for the advice and leading me in the right direction.
