View Full Version : DXX file - how do I use it?

Hi guys and gals, this will probably turn out to be a really stupid question but I can only find a couple of threads here about them but they don't answer my question.
I've extracted the block attributes to a DXX file, but I can't seem to work out how to do anything with it?
I can't open it from AutoCAD LT 2008 open menu as it isn't either a dwg or dxf file, so I tried changing the file extension, but AutoCAD just tells me it is an invalid file.
Can someone please enlighten me and point me in the right direction?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Jonathan.
From Help -
Using an attribute extraction template file, you can extract attribute information from a drawing and create a separate text file for use with database software.

Of course, just opened it in notepad to see the string of data.
Think the help file threw me by saying it was a dxf file with a dxx file extension to distinguish it.
I think I might need to create the attribute extraction file so I can get the CDF or SDF file with all the unnecessary data filtered out which might be a bit more usable.
Cheers John, I thought it might something fairly simple, just needed a nudge to see it.

Jonathan, no problem.
I just noticed your location; my mother's great-grandfather came from Coggleshall.

ha, small world indeed!
My family, on my mothers side, has been in Coggeshall for quite a few generations, you never know, your mums great grandfather could have been at school/worked with, and most certainly lived near as it is quite a small village, with some of my family!

haha, I've had many a drunken night out in Colchester down the years. I started my working life in Colchester too at Woods Air Movement, when it was at the old site and before it became Flakt Woods.

Yep there's now lots of empty flats for sale on the old woods site. My office is only about a mile further up that road.

I haven't been round there since it has all changed I must admit, might take a drive there when then weather picks up and I am bored and take a look around.
You must be up near the old Woods Social Club and recreational field then?

You're not missing much it's just the same old developer flats and houses getting thrown up (literally) all over the place
I'm a bit further up actually, in Bergholt the other side of the A12.

There has been quite a big development rush in Colchester recently hasn't there!
I wondered if you meant Bergholt, I couldn't think of any business type buildings where I was talking about.

Yeah over the last three or four years there's been quite a lot going on, there's another 3-4000 homes planned for North Colchester around the new football stadium and half the town centre is supposed to be knocked down for a new shopping centre at some point.
Keeps us in work though :)
