We're running into a problem in our projects and it involves the use of Groups and how they react to schedules. We have floors that are identical, therefore an efficient response is making them a group. This is also the same for ceilings. However, when we want to assign information to these groups, we cannot directly edit the schedule and are reduced to opening each group and updating said information. The real seriousness of the problem comes from when we want to update the same information on the same objects, such as doors. Unclicking "Itemize every instance" allows us to quickly do that, but the whole "You can't do that it's a group" error raises it's ugly head with the friendly "Ungroup" message as a viable solution.

Is there a better way of having both flexibility and efficiency with Groups & Schedules I'm missing somewhere?

You have to select the group and edit it, update the schedule information, then finish the group. Yes this is a pain but it actually makes sense since groups are by definition supposed to be the same.

Also, the Door Mark (Door Number) in Revit 2009 is "exposed" so you can number the doors without editing the group, provided you are using the built-in door mark parameters. All other door parameters, including any instance parameters you've added, are only available by editing the Group
