Walls and Reveals

How can we apply a different material at the back surface of a reveal? At first I thought the painting tool but it was impossible to do this for every reveal of the building. Then I tried the opposite. I started having the wall material the same to the one I wanted for the reveal and after placing the reveal I changed the wall material using the paint tool. Still I don't want to believe it's the only way.
Any ideas?

Painting the reveal face is the only way I know.

Your work-around may be feasible if there are more reaveals than walls though.
