Unequal concrete beam joins

Hi all,

Please refer to the attached image. Is there anything that can be done to fix the join shown? Why am I getting the two extra lines (almost as if I'm looking at the beam from below instead of above)? It's quite interesting that in a situation like this, if you turn on Shadows, those two lines disappear :banghead:

PS: I know about the linework tool, but that's not a solution ;) We have a lot of these conditions.

I'm pretty sure this is a case of the beams are not actually joined, and thus cutting each other.

I had the same issue in my last project, and I think I had to unjoin the beam from the one parallel to it, and then I could join to the perpendicular beam.

I still havent figured out how or why the parallel beams were supposedly joined....

The beams are joined. Those lines shouldn't show up because the top of both beams coincide; they are on the same plane.

Concrete framing is an area that still needs a good bit of development. Granted its a lot better than the previous versions of Revit but there are a lot of join issues to contend with, especially if you have sloped concrete framing.
First confirm the framing is exactly the same elevation and that one is not 1/256" lower. (Per autodesks suggestion prior to the autojoining material feature...)
Try using the trim/extend tool, picking the interior face of the beam and then the deeper beam. This method has worked for me in the past but its very tedious on large multistory projects.

Change your "Hidden Lines" subcategory of "Structural Framing" to a different color and a smaller dashed line pattern. Then you'll see what's going on. I think they are representing correctly, your linetype has too big a dash. Now when you place a slab over the beams all the lines will follow the "Hidden Lines" value. See attached. Does that help?

You hit the nail right on Chad, that helps a lot. I should have looked there but somehow missed it as I didn't expect the out of the box template to have hidden lines look the same as the beam edges! Thanks a lot.

Toggling thin lines quickly gives you a clue whether those are dashes or the beams not jointing properly.:beer:
