Is there a simple way to turn off the "border" lines of a masking region?

Yes, go in to Edit Sketch mode, select the border and make them <invisible Lines> linetype. Then when you finish, they wont be visible..

If you draw the masking region with invisible lines it won't show the outline of the masking region. Hopefully this helps unless your trying to accomplish something else.
