Has anyone seen or come up with an extension where you could do a selection "query" to select objects based upon certain parameters? I remember using a function like this about 7-8 years ago at my previous firm running MicroStation. Basically I see a dialog box that lets you pick objects based on family type & category, and then you would get different query options based on what you pick.

For example, if you pick Walls, you can then specify things like base or top constraint, offsets, etc. This would allow you do something like select all walls 10 feet tall, or select all walls extending up to a certain level, etc.

I could see many uses for something like this. If there isn't a 3rd party app for this, it's definitely something Autodesk should consider including.

not that I'm aware of, but it should definitely be possible. Let me know when you get it finished :)

in the Revit 2009 SDK there is a samle called 'elements filter' which shows off the new elements filtering.

You can create filters there, so i guess it would be a category or type or something to select the walls, and then you create probably a parameter query for the height?

That sample can be modified pretty easily to make it select the elements or something for you.

I was just giving you some grief :). Sounds like it could be useful, I may work on it if I get a little extra time (don't hold your breath :) )
