Are Titus rep recently stopped by to ask for our opinion on some Revit families that Titus has been developing, and while we gave him our opinion, I am curious to hear others opinion. As of right now, only their VAV boxes are available and the content is only available through software that you need to load. I have attached a zip file with the exe and installation instructions.

Our impressions:
1. Need develop the families so that types our implemented so that you do not need to load multiple families for the same type of VAV box
2. Make use of toggles to control such visibilty items as control boxes. There should be no need to load a separate family just so that you can have a right hand control box instead of left.
3. Cut out some of the detail such as voids, and the flow tube being extended into the box. We do no neet to see the sheetmetal thickness, and all it will do is hurt the performance of our models.
4. Personally we would like to see service clearances.
5. Make the families available so that you do not need to load their software, and if they insist on the software then make it so that you can see more than 4 items per page.
6. Need to show the elctrical connections
7. REHEAT COILS, other than electric reheat. What happened to hot water reheat coils?
8. The industry in general needs to standardize on a basic set of shared parameters, so that we can really leverage the propagation of information.

All in all while the content could be much better, it is a positive sign that big companies are finally embracing bim and beginning to create content. Please let me know what you think so that I can forward this information on.

Thanks, I downloaded your zip file.
But do you know where in the Titus Website they are advertising this?
or is it a select few that are doing the Beta Version and if you know when it will go Live?

I have been hammering our local reps about getting the manufacturers to provide Revit MEP families. Its in their best interests to lead the pack in this situation. If we have their equipment in the model, its a good chance we're going to Spec that equipment. (not always, but their chances improve greatly)

I was informed last night I will be receiving a copy of the Titus families from my local rep. So we'll see if it is included in some type of software, or if they are loose families.

Thanks for you opinion on their work, it will help me when I tear into them.

They are not advertising them on the website yet... Our rep was discreetly handed a copy from Titus at the ASHRAE convention. As to when it will be fully released, I don't know. In my mind they have quite a bit of content to clean up.

I agree completely, and I think that for the most part they are listening, as Trane, McQauy, York, and now Titus are jumping on the wagon. If only Greenheck and Cook could get on as well.

I attached everything the rep will give you to my original post, all you need to do is run the exe and start revit. There will be a new drop down when you're done. Feel free to tear into them immediately if you would like. Also please post your impressions, as I am curious what other people think.

How, exactly, is this browser supposed to work? I opened the Library, and there is a screen with two pictures of VAVs and an "add to cart" icon. I can't get it to respond at all.

On the left hand side of the browser there should be the different types of boxes, for example desv, select the type you would like and then you have to go through the pages of results, which only display 2 at a time. The list view will display 4. When you find the one you want, add it to your cart and then at the top of the browser you should see a download hyperlink appear. I hopw this helps.

I installed the software and downloaded/imported some VAV boxes into Revit, what are the actual files so I can copy to my co-workers?

You will need to install the software on each persons computer. The actual families are not in the installation but instead are downloaded from a third party internet site.

I still can't get the library box to respond. It opens and shows different VAV models, but it won't respond to clicks or drags.

I'll be more inclined to try it when they add their diffusers.

I meant I can use the VAV box on Revit after downloaded and imported by "Titus Content Revit Add-in", but where are the actual .rta files???

Never mind, I got that!

I think this is great stuff...however. I would prefer to not install a "Titus" pull down menu into my current workspace.

If every manufacturer goes this route with installations...we'll never be able to manage it.

I think McQuay has it headed in the right direction. Post the families on the web, you are responsible for keeping your library up to date. They send an email when updates are posted to their web site and to the AutoDesk Seek web site.

This works great for our workflow and library structure.

A link to McQuay's web site...

I can't get the Titus menu to function OR uninstall.

But I agree, I don't really want a pull-down- I'd be happy with having the content on my server.

Nick,
I posted a link in the families section but not in this one. You can go to http://lorencook.com/About/destools.shtml and get the Revit files as well as 2D files. All most all of the Loren Cook line is available. They were available via beta, but now are available to all. Enjoy.

Do you need to request the COOK's Digital Media Center? I could not find a place to simply download the families...
Thank you for bringing the Cooks revit content to my attention.

EDIT: Nvm I found the content. Thank you.

I downloaded almost the entire catalog from that first link. I even downloaded the curbs, but i haven't opened it yet.I'm hoping they are parametric families and not just details,,,,

They are parametric families for Revit. There are easily over 100 fan types with all the sizes of fan types tabled in them. If Cook makes it, it is most likely there. There are a few models left to add, but they are some of the less popular models.

Sorry Sgermano.

I am glad you like them so far. I spent more than an hour or two on them. Hopefully we did not miss any important parameters. Please feel free to leave any comments, good or bad.

This is awsome! We already used Cook most of the time, and between "Compute a fan" and these, it's so easy to get a fan in the model quickly.
I don't quite follow the curb though....
Can you set roof slope with it? I got it sized for the fan, but I did it pretty much manually, selected the opening size. What would be the best would be a menu that asks wich fan is being installed and how much pitch and direction does the roof have....Oh, and it could order lunch for you as well (maybe that's asking too much there?).

I'll bring it up to the boys at Cook. I am not sure how much they might want to do. I know on 2-D Fandrafter, they do not have sloped curbs, but it would not be to bad to do in Revit. As far as the menu, I will have to research it. I'll let you know what sort of response I get. If you work with a Cook rep, you might mention it to him to. The Reps have a little more pull than I do. I am just a Cad Monkey after all....

I tried to install the Titus Revit Content on REVIT MEP 2010 and it does not work. Has anybody tried to install it on 2010?If yes, how did you do it?
I really appreciate the help.

You no longer need to install the software, but instead can simply go to the Titus website and download the content.

Regarding Titus's VAV families, has anyone figured out how they were able to flip their hydronic hot water connector using the right hand/left hand yes/no parameter? It appears to be linked to an angle dimension, but in searching through the family I am unable to locate this dimension. To clarify, I am asking about flipping the connector. I am aware of how to flip the extrusions that the connectors attach to. I am 90% certain this was not done with a nested family as this would cause the connectors to disappear in the primary family. I'd be happy to supply more info if necessary. Thanks in advance!
