Hi all,

We've got a situation where we're the model managers on a project. Our subs don't use Revit, they use AutoCAD. We thought, great, it should be just fine, we'll coordinate in Navisworks.

Unfortunately, exporting from Revit in 3D creates Polyface Meshes. This means that our MEP sub can't section off the building floor by floor, as they need to for the way they work.

Other than section boxing each floor of the building and xrefing them into a single drawing in CAD (which we do not want to do on a 120 floor building...), is there any decent way of exporting usable content for our subs?

Is there a section box equivalent in AutoCAD that I'm missing, that works with the exported geometry from Revit?

Thanks for the help!

there are options when you are exporting 3D to export to polyface mesh or ACIS solids. Go to the export command and click the "Options" button on the save dialog. The bottom drop down list lets you select between these options.

I did not know that - why, I don't know... Thanks for the information!
This should do the trick nicely!

Navisworks accepts 3D DWFs. I just tried the free Freedom viewer and it worked well. No surface patterns or rendering apparently, at least no in Freedom.
