I am trying to implement 4D Scheduling of a roadway project. I need to bring the roadway corridor I created in Civil 3D in to Navisworks (4D simulation software). I could export the corrdior as a .dwf file & I am able to bring it to Navisworks. But I have a major issue:

The whole corridor is one single object. I want to break the corridor by sub assemblies. In other words I need sidewalk, curb & gutter, pavement, subgrage, daylight, etc in different layers.

Any ideas?

Create multiple corridors for each object you want? So one for sidewalk, one for pavement, one for curb, etc.

Yowsa!

I thought Navis Works was designed to work with C3D...

Creating multple corridor is a solution, but not at all PRACTICAL. The project that we are working is 15 miles long, 10 interchanges & some of which are three level in the most urban parts of Abu Dhabi. We have to model this according to the construction staging, which makes it even more complicated.

So imagine how many corridors are we going to end up with?

I agree; that would not be a viable way to use Civil 3D.

But since I have heard of people using NavisWorks with Civil 3D, there must be a way that does not involve creating a corridor for every object. I've never used NavisWorks myself, though, so I don't know what it would be.

would creating a seperate surface for each area work?

"would creating a seperate surface for each area work?"

It is not possible to create closed objects using surfaces (triangulation does not work). What I am looking for is much similar to Components in Bentley Inraods.

Is it something where NavisWorks expects you to assign Materials in C3D?

How about feature lines? You could pull them in with different styles etc? What version are you on?
