I tried posting this in the General Forum, but got no responses. Thought I would try it here:
I am trying to use the concrete pan joist family that comes OOTB in Revit. So far everything seems to work ok, except when I want to use the joist as a beam that has one vertical face tapered, and the opposite face flat. I have attached an image that hopefully shows what I'm trying to explain.
Usually what is shown (and what I would like to see in plan, assuming there is a slab placed over the joists) is two dashed lines representing the bottom of the stem, i.e. the bottom of the taper. The top lines of the stem are not shown, i.e. the top of the taper. If no slab is present, the top of the stem shows up solid, with the bottom of the stem showing dashed. Once I uncheck the "Taper Right" or "Taper Left" constraint, the face of the beam that is flat disappears in plan view when covered by a slab. I noticed that when the beam is not covered by a slab, the solid line of the top of the stem covers the dashed line of the bottom of the slab. I'm assuming the same thing is happening when the beam is covered by a slab, and the top of stem line (that doesn't show up?) overrides the bottom of stem line.
Is there a way to control this beahvior in the family? I have looked at it and can find no lines in the family or anything that controls how the lines appear on plan. I don't think I would even need the lines indicating the top of the stem, if there was a way to get rid of them. Any ideas of what to do? I know I could probably create a new family for the situation, but overall the pan joist family seemed to work well until now, and would like to continue to use it if possible.
Thanks.
