Complex facade in Revit 2009?

Hi

My first post. Archicad 'old hand' and Revit 'new hand'

We have secured a large 60storey residentail project with a complex facade. The concept was modelled in Rhino but we have committed to delever a full BIM project. Think of a wellington boot with a scolloped top and an inverted crease in the front and you get the picture. I am not sure Revit 2009 or Archicad v12 can handle this facade and we may have to consider Generative Components or Digital Project. Would appreciate your feedback.

Why not import from Rhino for the facade modeling and document in Revit?

Try this:

From the Rhino model, export to .dwg

In Revit, open a new mass Family.

In the Mass Family, Import the .dwg file from Rhino

In Revit, Save the Mass Family to a proper direcrtory.

Then, in the Revit Project, go to File>Load from Library and load the Mass Family

In Visibility/Graphics, make sure Mass is turned on.

Then under the Massing Tools, selct Load Mass

Once the new Mass is loaded, go to a 3D view and with the Massing Tools convert the faces of the Mass to walls,curtainwalls, etc. Convert the top faces to Roofs.

Add Mass Floors by Level. Then convert Mass Floors to Floors.

You should now be well on your way to having the complex model from Rhino "converted"
to Revit elements.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT DELETE THE MASS!!! Or you will lose its association with the
Revit model.

You can now produce schedules for floor areas in realtime.

If you need to change the shape/design of the building--make the changes in the Rhino Model, re-export to .dwg, re-import .dwg into the Mass, and then select "re-create"
and the Revit model will update.

You may want to check out some of the documentation being published on Revit 2010. The new Conceptual Modeling tools allow nearly any shape to be created. These shapes can then be patterned and panelized in Revit 2010 to further explore the design/constructability.

With that said, the Rhino shape can be brought into Revit as an SAT file and used to document the project. Any chance you can post an image of this f"boot" form you are considering?
