I just got a new Dell with the XP downgrade. I have been unable to get any difinitive answers about which OS will be better with Autocad Architecture 2009 and 3d Max 2009, however I did speak with a tech person at my reseller.

He says he is required to demo CAD 2009 on Vista, but runs his own on XP because he feels Vista runs Autodesk products significantly slower.

Does anyone have any info/input based upon their own experience?

I've never run ACAD on Vista. I've just heard several people say it runs a lot slower.

I've used Vista for other stuff, & I don't like the feel of it. Mostly because I like the keyboard so much, but Vista took some of that away.

At this point, wouldn't it be better to just skip Vista and wait on Win7...?

We've gone to Vista 64 bit on 10 machines at our office (some 8 months ago now I think) and its been chaos. Drivers have been the worst issue and we've had to double up on memory (8 gig now) in order to get performance that was similar to older machines with only 2 gig and XP Pro.

I went from XP 32 to Vista 64. I think it runs smoother and as fast, if not a tad bit faster. ~shrug~

I run XP 64 at home and Vista 64 at the office, both seem significantly faster than 32bit XP, but then again, I also have a lot better machines running XP and Vista than I did with 32bit. Comparing between the two 64bit machines, I would say there is no noticable difference. It all depends on your system specs as to how Vista will run, the higher the specs, the better it will run. Based on my personal experience, wait till AutoCAD 2010 comes out, it seems like it runs even better than 09 in Vista.

From what I have also seen I would second that. We are now wating on 2010 until we decide what computer to upgrade to.....

Wait for Windows 7 and pray Microsoft don't mess it up before launch!

For now, use Windows XP if you want your AutoCAD to run faster. Because using with Vista is kinda slow.
