We are an architectural firm that has been using Revit successfully for several years. The news coming out about the new interface and the ribbon and so forth in 2010 has a couple of the management types (non-Revit users) a bit freaked out. They are talking that we might need some company wide training. I'm wondering if we can get by with checking out a webinar, there are some being offered already.
My question is for those in the know...is this going to be a a minor thing to a company already entrenched in Revit or are we going to need to get new training? They are asking me for answers and at this time I haven't seen enough to know what those answers are.
Thanks.

Two major changes in Revit 2010:
1. Ribbon Window GUI
Not a big deal--actually organizes the tools better, IMO.
2. New "sketchup-like" modelling tools, for Massing Families only.
Neither of these seem like a reason to panic.

There are always changes and new features in a release. Management should expect that when a new release comes out some training will be necessary if the office decides to upgrade to the next release. Sometimes more training just means having a couple of meetings to discuss the new features. Sometimes it will take more than a couple of meetings. You'll have to get a hold of the newest release, assess the changes, and decide if it's worth training staff in the new features/changes this year... or wait a year until the next release. Every office is different. I would ask Autodesk for access to the Beta if you want to be in the know before a release.
Let's say you consult with others who use MEP or Structure. You may want to find out if they are upgrading to the next release and if so when. You may export or import from other applications. If there are export/import improvements you might want to upgrade to the next release. A new interface means you're probably going to get this question a lot "Where did my tool go?" But if most of your users know all the tools in Revit, they're going to be able to find them on their own... most of the time.
You have to weigh the factors and decide for your office.

They seem to implement bling rather than actual solutions these days; RAC2009 had a new render engine, viewcube (very convenient) and swept blend, and this one... Sketchup-style massing (I don't use it) and ribbons (what's wrong with the current interface? It works fine for me, I find it quite neatly organised).
I disliked ribbons ever since Office 2007 (still using good old 2003) but it seems like I need to get used to it as one could eventually get used to a baseball bat forced in from the backside. Doesn't mean it's an improvement but we'll have to wait and see.
