Revit Architecture 2009

i've tried creating a canted wall with an in-place family, and another by adding a sweep. neither has given the results I’m looking for.

these are interior walls that might need doors, windows, and openings. here’s what I’ve run into:

in-place wall – this can’t be copied or create similar, so i don’t really see this as a solution. doors & windows work, but not storefronts.

applied sweep – while this draws more like a wall, it doesn’t seem to like openings, storefronts, or editing the profile of the wall. the sweep (which goes from floor to top of wall) gets broken top to bottom when the wall profile is edited.

the sweep was created from a new family using Profile.rft help states that there is a “Wall Sweep Profile.rft” but I don’t see it anywhere.

anyone care to point me in a good direction? comments about known limitations appreciated.

thank you for your time,
Daron

Is the inside going to be perfectly vertical?

I build a Mass in Place family showing the cant, and then i use wall by face to place the wall on the face of the mass. *IF* the inside is going to be vertical, then i build that wall as a seperate wall, and use join geometry. Doors and windows dont always play nice, so youll want face based families for the canted wall...

I wouldnt use an in place family AS the wall, id use your standard wall types, etc...

thanks Aaron.

i might be missing something where you mention 'inside'. these are interior walls. were you refering to the interior face of exterior walls?

Also, doors & windows work on both sides, but i cannot place an opening on the wall applied to the angled mass face.

am i missing something?

thanks again,
Daron

For an opening, just edit the mass and cut it out. Then finish the mass, grab it and hit Related Hosts > remake in the option bar. itll cut that portion of wall out.

I thought they were exterior canted walls with perfectly vertical interiors (IE: a varying thickness cavity in section...)

Does anyone else think it is silly and cumbersome that you have to draw out a mass just to place a simple canted wall? There should be a parameter available in the element properties - a check mark option that allows you to cant any wall at any time! You should be able to choose between either specifying the angle or the offset distance from the top in relation to the base. SIMPLE! And they should not stop short either - a curved wall should also be able to be canted so you can create a cone shaped wall simply, quickly, and easily. They really dropped the wall, I mean ball, regarding this functionality!

Sometimes it helps to remember that walls and windows- the basic software objects- are incredibly rudimentary things. A wall is really a two-pick, or line-based object that can do little else than host other objects.

Refer to my laborious post about non-vertical walls:

not to worry. i'm sure will get a really neato new user interface in 2011. the Ribbon will be replaced by the Rubberband. it's much more flexible.
