The attached picture explains it best, but I have tried just about everything I know of and have not found a solution.
I've tried view ranges of all kinds, I've even set the view range to the middle of a room, say around 6', put the cut line at 3', and the bottom at 0', then drew a 6" round duct at 5' and I am still unable to select it to the left of this 'imaginary line'
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I came across this one a while ago....
I think there is something over the top of the area of duct that you can't select.
Something you can't "see" in your view....a beam, or structure of some sort maybe?
Give it a go...

Turned everything on, and didn't find anything that really stood out that was 'blocking' the duct. I made ducts at many different elevations and tried many different view ranges with nothing that worked.
Here's a picture of the section with everything turned on.

It looks like your room bounding height is too low. try matching the room bounding height to be the same as in the area where you can select the duct and see if that helps.

Also, do you have a ceiling in those rooms that are at different heights than the hallway? What kind of view are you using you might not see the ceiling if you are on a floor plan. Lastly in the section view that you turned everything on, did you turn on all categories even categories from other disciplines? (check box on the bottom of the visibility screen). My initial guess is that the imaginary line is really the wall that you are crossing over between the hallway and the rooms.
BTW - you could just change your view type from hidden line to wireframe.

Well, that was my initial though, but from what I've gone through in the model, the imaginary line is actually in the room, and not when it crosses over from the hallway. It starts 5" to the left of the grid line, regardless of where it is in the building. The duct is selectable on one side of a room, but once you cross over 5" left of that grid line, the duct becomes selectable in the same room. I have noticed that it is only limited to within the building, I CAN draw a duct outside the building and it is selectable outside, but not inside the building. I am completely lost.
And I did turn everything from all disciplines on including everything under the drop downs. So every single box is checked, and there is nothing between the duct and the top of the room.
Like I said earlier, even when I draw a duct at 5' and have a top view of 6', I still can't select it. So if there is *something* blocking me from clicking on the duct, it takes up the entire volume of the space. No matter the view range or duct height I cannot select a duct in this area. Is it possible there is something the architects have done to cause this?

and we have a winner. I just read that and tried it, it works!
Though, it doesn't resolve the issue completely, it provides a work around!
Thanks and hopefully we all can continue this discussion to figure out what is blocking the duct.
