So I have what seems to be a simple objective, yet I can't solve it.
I am working on a wall partition schedule, and in lieu of using a filter to sort a range, I need to search for mulitple types, in a single filter sentence. In the world of excel you could write a filter formula something like: ("A","B","C") However, this does not seem to work in Revit. I can use ranges with some success, but if I use the "Contains" field I have to select a single item to search for. I would like to use the "Contains" field in conjunction with a multi-item search string....I have even tried to use multiple filter senteces, but Revit is limited to 4 for whatever reason, and even at only 4, I can't seem to get anything to show up on the schedule.
Any help would be appreicated...

You could try creating an instance parameter in the "Fields" section of the schedule editor. Call it "partition" or something of the sort and make it a yes/no parameter. Then, for each wall type in the project, you can turn it on or off. Then filter the schedule based on that parameter.

Actually, a type parameter would probably work better than instance parameter. Try that.

OK, so maybe i should rephrase what I am lookling for.
The partition types I am trying to filter are all Type Parameters.
What I really need is a way to filter by using a single text string, like you would in Excel.

You cannot use a formula of any kind to "filter" a schedule per say.

Recap: you want to simply type in "A", "B", "E", etc to give Revit the list of partition types you would like to see in the schedule. Correct?

If this is correct, follow the recipe below. If not, please restate your question.

Since the filters are limited and you are unable to solve the problem by using a text string, use the work-around I suggested before. It is very easy to create the yes/no "type" parameter from the "fields" section of the schedule. Once you do that then you can simply open the element properties of each partition/wall in your project and either "check" or "uncheck" that parameter. Then filter the schedule based on the yes/no parameter. I have done it on my end, it works, and it only takes 5 min.

I imagine there are multiple other ways to do this, but I don't think the text string will work, since what you see is what you get reagarding filters.

Cporter, thanx for the suggestion. I think that what you are suggesting is good so long as I only want one partition schedule, however I have several partition types; maybe 12 or possbily even more depending on the project, and I need to lump certain ones together in the same schedule. This is where the rub lies, since I either have to create several seperate schedules for each partition type, or just one that has them all. In lieu of having a few schedules that can lump similar types together; like "A", "F", "K" in one schedule, and maybe "B", "H", "P" in another and so one. It seems that since the letters overlap in the ABCDE flow you can't filter them any otherway than to do a range like "A" thru "D", and so on.

I truly appreciate everyones input do far, thanx again!

Hmm... Instead of a yes/no parameter, what about a different parameter that is based on the logical similarities of partition types. For example, you want to lump all your 1 hr rated partitions in schedule A, all your 2 hr partitions in schedule B, and non-rated partitions in schedule C. You could create a "Fire Rating" parameter, and then filter based on that.

This may not solve your problem and I am still not exactly sure what you want to do. Certainly, a text string that selects the specific items you want would make it easier, and maybe should be a wishlist item, but I don't know that it is possible. I'm sure there is a work-around that would be acceptable for now, don't you think?

I would either create a text parameter used for grouping/sorting, or use a parameter that is not used in your schedule, like the type comments field, assembly field, description field or something.

So then make your schedules "Stud Partitions", "Masonry Partitions", etc. and then input "Stud Wall" or "Masonry Wall" or whatever in that field of each wall type to filter by.

This will work if you don't need one wall showing up in more than one schedule.
