Is there a way to model an underground building.

Let's say i have a large complex of building all linked together by a series of tunnels and underground spaces. I want to model the site with a large toposurface but when i make the building pad, i have to make it so it covers all of the buildings including the underground and tunnels. What it does is that the underground area become open to air above and no ground covers them at all.

I've seen previous posts where it is said to link another site on top of the tunnels but what happens if the tunnrels are sloped or if they are at multiple levels (like 3-4 different levels)?

Just a stab in the dark,

Try to use a floor for your toposurface. You can slope your floor based from pick points on your contours. Create a in-place void family for the tunnels. I would link the site into your building file.

Site tools are lacking functionality.

good luck

Thanks for the suggestion.
The only point I have is that my site is so large that it doesn't make sense to model it all with floors.

Another thing I must say is that I does not only have tunnels but also parts of building (like parking garage) at different levels inthe project that must be underground. So covereed with earth.

Have we reached the limitation of the Revit Interface???
Can we use Revit for underground buildings?

I think that since we are building most of our projects in city landscape, we need a tool to accomplish this from the Revit Developpement team (read Autodesk here).

No other suggestion?

Shall we put this in the Wish List?

i probably tried a workaround. i export the original site surface to dwg, and then create a mass family with it, than with voids, open all the tunels and underground spaces.

I agree put it into the wish list.

Why cant you draw the site in one file, and the buildings, tunnels, underground structures in another file, then link them together. That way as long as the surface is in its correct location relative to the buildings, everything should come in correct, and if you need to, you can cut voids out of the below surface area for the tunnels.
