Hi,
I have recieved a 3d dwg file from the architect as he uses ArchiCad. I have Imported/Linked the 3D dwg file in to my project file and it is visable.
The problem is if I take a section it only show the elevation for the same direction.
Please see attached image and you will see what i mean.
The section is taken in the middle of the building but it show the south elevation?!!

Any suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks
J

Hmmm
I got it to work.
I created a Generic Model Family and imported the 3D dwg model there which I loaded into my project.
I don't know though why it makes a difference.

Have you asked for the IFC File?

I find these much easier to work with for initial setup of the Revit Structure Model.

Hi,
No I haven't asked for it.
I got the impression (after reading some posts abut IFC) that sometimes when you import IFC data it rotates members etc. I haven't tried but I should prperly give it a go now when I have the oppertunity :)

Thanks

I believe that Architect that I am working with hasn't done a IFC export before.
Are there any settings in particular that he should consider before exporting the Archicad model to IFC?

Thanks

There is plenty he can do but I would just tell him the following.

First Screen for export is for unit settings no need to touch it.

Second Screen is object information and detail. This is useful in various area's such as translation back to ArchiCAD with your IFC export however a much higher level of collaboration is needed and unless these guys are experience in IFC management import and extraction there will be more issues than it is work. Don't include Site IFC and for the moment tell them to leave all other options blank, it will be easier and make the file smaller. Under Export elements make sure you select "All project" or something like that to not miss out on objects.

I would then say he should be able to use the rest of the options as setup and doesn't need to touch them. Again there are benefits but I believe this is the easiest way for your initial setup of the model. After this you may find it's prolly easier with CAD drawings overlaid on your working drawings. I find using copy/monitor is useless when dealing with ArchiCAD.

There is the ability to send an IFC back to them to update there model which is where most of the other options can come into play but that means extra time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks mate.
I really appreciate it. I will ask the Architect to send a IFC file.
