View Full Version : Randomly Moving Attribute Text

I'm currently charting the company's job history over an xref'd series of plans with a block consisting of a triangle, and a displayed attribute text object.

I'm working in real world co-ordinates and occasionally the text associated with the triangle jumps north about 6,000kms (just east of Guam, from here in Australia). is there a way to stop this from happening, or fix it once it does happen ?

The current method is to zoom extents, delete, restart Autocad 2008 (a 5-15 minute process) then replace. But as I ask this, a few older placed blocks have decided to jump as well...

Help, please ??

what version of CAD?
AutoCAD 2008 has that type of issue if you do not have SP1 installed.

Civil3D 2008 running as Acad 2008 (which as far as i can tell, it just doesn't load the Civil options), and it has service pack 2 installed

Is it a Multi Line attribute? I'd suggest converting it to a normal ATTRIB as there's still a bit of problems with MATTRIB's in 2008.

Have you tried the ATTSYNC or BATTMAN commands? They may be able to fix the attribute back into possition.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

Attsync worked, learning by trial and error can only carry you so far ;)

As far as I know, it's only a single line attribute, I didn't add anything else to it during creation.

You're welcome

You may also try to edit the block (BEDIT) and set the attribute definition's Lock Position property (in Properties Palette) to Yes. That'll disallow the grip edit of the attrib itself. After closing & saving the block editor, run ATTSYNC again to update the existing block instances to this definition.

The problem is still happening :( and after using ATTSYNC the next block I place often vanishes as well (at this point I just quit and start from the save after the ATTSYNC).Once I used ATTSYNC again after the next block vanished, and all the visible blocks vanished with it...

I opened BEDIT, and the Attribute is set to locked and all the other settings are set to NO, and it is a single line attribute.

I can remember similar things happening previously, but they were nearly always due to multiline attributes. And they "nearly" stopped happening after one of the service packs. I'm on Revit Architecture 2008's Vanilla ACad 2008 ... there might be a difference between the Vanilla & Civil3D.

A few thoughts: Does the block have any dynamic parameters? Do they move or somehow change the attributes? Is the block's 0,0,0 (in BEDIT) far away from the block's actual linework?

No there are no dynamic paramaters that I know of in the block, and yes the block's created around 0,0,0, i think the text/attribute's at 2,-1,0

here's the pieces of the block

Are you using annotative blocks? I've found that annotatives with more than one scale set does weird things when mirrored.

If not, then I'm at a loss  sorry.

As far as I know, the blocks are not annotative...

Would the fact I'm using Civil3d08 as vanilla Acad08 mean that the vanilla version is unpatched... just something that popped into my head..

Would the fact I'm using Civil3d08 as vanilla Acad08 mean that the vanilla version is unpatched... just something that popped into my head..Might be, have you checked that you have the latest updates and service packs from the AutoDesk website? The C3D has a different set of updates from the Vanilla, so these may be issued at different dates.
