Foundations in Elevation

Typically, the convention is to show the foundation dashed below grade in an elevation view. How does revit handle this?

I have been using a solid white filled region sketched with invisible lines so the boundaries of the filled region do not show. Then I use the detail line - hidden - to trace the foundation beyond the the filled region. Is this how others are handling this, or am I missing something, because this seems quite un-Revit-like.

I think the consensus is (if you're using topo) to turn off topo, use the linework tool to change foundaton lines to hidden, turn topo back on. This way, if you move or change the location of foundation, the linework goes with it.
