I would like to build a crude structural steel frame of an existing building for a clash detection I am going to run on and MEP and Arch Revit model I am receiving from the Architect and Engineer.

I am using Revit Architecture to build the frame, and inserting [component - load - structural - steel - column or frame - ex. W12 x 20] into my model.

When inserting columns I have no problem seing them in any view, but when it comes to girders/beams I can only see them in a 3D view.

Can anyone help explain why I can not see them in plan or elevation view? Also, pointers to fix this problem would be appreciated.

is your discipline set to architectural? if so, try changing it to coordiantion.

So I just went into the Level 1 Floor Plan Properties, and changed the discipline frm Arch to all other options and I still can not see the girder in any other view then the 3D.

Thank you for the suggestion, do you have any other ideas?

Is the horizontal member sitting above your view's cut plane? By default, a floor plan's cut plane is 4' - 6" above the associated level. So if the horizontal girder/beam is above that elevation, you won't see it. You need to switch to either a plan view that is above your beams, or switch to a reflected ceiling plan to show framing above.

check your visbility graphics. see if your structural elements are checked. you might have to go to VG and check "show categories from all disciplines" and then look for the structural items and check them. hope this helps.

the other think I would check is on your view control bar click on the light bulb and see if your beams are hidden.
