View Full Version : Revit homerun tick marks and industry standards.

My first question would be - what in the world is the industry standard for homeruns?
I checked the AIA graphical standards, and their standards match ours -

S curve for ground
Long line for hot
Short line for neutral

The only thing I couldn't find, and doesn't match our standards, is the order that the tick marks are displayed. We show, from the outlet to the arrowhead -

Ground, hot, neutral

---S ||| iii ---->

But in Revit, the program displays

Ground, neutral, hot

---S ii || ---->

Is there a way to change the order in which the tick marks are displayed? We either need to change our symbol legend or change the Revit display.

Also, what is everyone else's office standard for homeruns?

We actually just show Hots and Neutrals only, and they are the same length. Down and dirty. =)

We don't show them at all.

I would think it would just be easier to change your symbol legend. As long as the symbol is there and the contractor knows what it means, I think it will still get built the same way.

has anyone ever encountered/resolved this issue? my boss is pretty set in his ways about having tick marks be ordered... (neutral) (ground) (hot[s]) so that you have the tick mark with the dot break up the neutral and hots.

under electrical settings, wiring, you can select which ticks represent which conductors. the ticks are actual families burried somewhere in the content folder, not sure if they will show up for you to select if you can make your own in that same folder. but you can at least change neutrals to short and hots to longs to solve your immediate issue. our office standard was pretty close to revit default, so i haven't had to change anything. i doubt you can do anything about what order they appear for now.

That wont work if you have more than one hot. I am struggling at making it revit look more like our standard kinda like \lll/ with the two diagonals as half length. I was able to get the short lengths but not the correct order, g h n.
