I have Map 2008 on a pc w/ dual monitors. If you have dual monitors, can you help me with a test? Steps to reproduce problem.
Open a dwg with a block that has attributes.
Double click on the atts to open the advanced attribute editor.
Drag the dialog to monitor2 and resize the dialog.
Click OK. If you click on X, the settings won't be saved.
Double click on the atts again and the dialog should open to the default size instead of the size you resized it to. I have Map running on monitor 2. DC'ing will open the dialog to monitor2. But if you have Map running on monitor1, it will open on monitor1, not monitor2.Does the dialog retain its settings for you?

Works just like you say.
Child dialog opens on same monitor as parent application, at original size.

thanks, I'm working with tech support. He suspected the profile wasn't getting updated. However, its only that dialog and it behaves properly when on monitor 1.

My mistake. It DOES retain it's location and size when you keep it on monitor 1.

What are your display settings? adesk is saying that this behavior is by design so that if a laptop was disconnected, the dialog wouldn't end up being invisible. However, I have Map running on mon2 and even though size and position settings aren't saved, it still loads at the center of mon2. They said that mon2 could be set as the primary mon, but mine isn't. I have Intel display driver, extended desktop, mon1 is primary, mon2 is second.

Mine is mon2 is primary and mon1 is secondary. Dialogs that were closed in mon1 will open up in mon1 in the center and don't keep size. Move dialog to mon2 and it will open back up in mon1 but keep size and position relative to where it was in mon2. Close then reopen after it moves back to mon1, it centers and resets back to default size.

Final word from adesk. If you are using <<unnamed profile>>, then the dialog always opens on the primary monitor. If you have a custom profile, then it can open on the last monitor the dialog was used on. In either case, it won't remember size/loc settings. I don't think they were aware of the latter conditions. Their intention was the former.

For my computer those settings are in the screen manager program. (NVIDIA) That's where I can tell the computer to open a dialog box on the other monitor or the same monitor as the application. Since I usually have multiple apps going I have always gone with the same screen. The computer does remember though which screen things have been opened on in the past.
