I want it teo be serious, but I want it to be fun to read as well. I'm sure something like this has been started before. . .infact theres a sticky quite similar. I'm trying to make this much more focused.
I'm going to start the list here on my local, and will add as I come up with them. . .let me know if you have one you would like to add.
Oh, top 10 Revit Do's and Revit Dont's

Didn't we already have one of these lists?
EDIT:
Yes (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=71388&highlight=revit+tips+novice) we have (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=76209&highlight=revit+tips+novice). Quite a legacy if I may add.
One excellent website is http://revitup.co.za, founded and maintained by our member Justin.

Thanks I was looking for that! It's exactly the purpose if this forum, and I think that most of these hints are pretty much timeless.

I like that compiled Doc file, thanks for that. I had entirely forgotten that post, and it makes it much easier than retyping it all! :)
Thanks guys....
When we get around to actually using Revit...
I'll definitely be searching for these threads!

Great list. Each should be a haiku. :)

When you mirror stuff,
don't uncheck 'copy' checkbox
just hit 'ctrl' key!

I enjoy and learn from all the "Revit Do's and Don'ts" lists on this forum. I would like to find one for different uses of reference planes and reference lines in a project. Not in families - those uses are obvious; but I would be interested in how everyone is using them in a project. Thanks.

In a project environment i use them a lot, and the "rules" for them (for me at least) go something like this:
1. Dont delete a reference plane you didnt create. If it is a work plane for someone elses geometry and you delete it, its disassociated.
2. NAME your reference planes. If its a workplane for a roof or some steel, say so. This alleviates people doing number 1. Moreso, name them intelligently. If a RP is locked to something, consider doing the following: CANOPY ROOF WP-L , with the dash "L" indicating its constrained. Why? Ever have someone go to move a ref plane one foot away from the building, and after they do the "move" it appears to not have moved at all? Typically, theyll try moving it AGAIN, and they wont always realize it IS moving... Its just pulling the entire building with it!
3. Use the extents intelligently. If it is a workplane for some canted steel or a roof that is only in a few structural bays, dont drag it all the way across the model or maximize its 3d extents for no good reason.
4. If you need it for DOCUMENTATION (IE, you want to dimension it and have it on a drawing) consider using a grid, a level, or align-lock the proper drafted line or model line to it. OR, COMMUNICATE with the team. Why? Ref planes and lines can be hidden globally in the plot dialogue. So if YOU plan on it showing and the plotting person plans on them not, there is a disconnect.
5. If youre using them for TEMPORARY things, like spacing out elements or outlining where something is going, and you DONT plan on keeping them, make sure you delete them.

thnx, edited.
Nice list!!!
To convert model line into detail line, copy model line back and forth from detail sketch (ie filled region). To convert detail line into model line, copy back and forth from, say, floor sketch.
I should acredit another AUGI user for this excellent tip, but I forgot his name. But his words will live on through this post. ;)
