We are working on a project and there are several different deisgns for this project. Instead of using Design Options in Revit, we are making several different copies of the file. We decide to go with file A for our project. A few months later the client changes his mind and decides option D is more appropriate. Luckily we have saved all the different files in an archive folder. Can we simply swap D for A? Will Revit "see" that this is a different file? What kind of havoc will this create with worksharing?

Yes, revit will see this as another file. You'll have to open it, and make it a central, then everyone will have to make new locals.
