Is there a way to "lock" elements such as structure that CANNOT be deleted by a sloppy draftsman or people that simply are not paying attention to what they are doing? Problem is, if an element deletes, the dimensions are deleted. This is critical when we are issueing Instruction Bulletins to the concractor and we need to make sure we maintain certain information. suggestions?

All I know that is if you "Pin" the element it will give you a warning when you try to delete it. It will let you ignore the warning and delete it anyway, though. I'm still finding my way around Revit, so there my be a way to actually lock or freeze certain element that would have to be "unfrozen" in order to delete. If not, this sound like a good Wish list Item.

Theres a few ways, but theyre a little inconvenient.

1. If its worksetted, open the model with a username like "ADMIN" and Check out worksets or objects that you dont want moved. Close without relinquishing. Then get really ticked off when you DO have to move it, lol.

2. Move them to a linked file. Stinks, cuz you will lose the dimensions when you do it. And they could still delete the entire link.

3. Place them in a design option. It wont disallow deleting, but they have to edit the option, or uncheck the "exlude design options" button before they can delete.

Bottom line? Revit is not for the lazy and/or the careless. If theyre determined to mess up and delete it, they WILL find a way. Spend the time educating and training about implications, rather than trying to lock down the model safely...
