I am having troubles importing an AutoCAD MEP file into Revit. I go to Import/Link, but it's giving me the following errors:

I open it file with the following options:

Error 3:

After I set the PROXYGRAPHICS to 1, it imported fine, but it imported in 2D. I'm trying to retain the three dimensional aspect of my HVAC Ductwork for collision report, etc. Is there a way to do this or have I completely messed this project up thinking it will import into Revit just fine? Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!!

The only way I have been able to get AMEP 3D into Revit is by doing one of two things. I either export from AMEP to IFC, then import IFC to Revit; or I export from AMEP as dxf, then import dxf to Revit. I usually lose a few things in the process, but most of the 3D elements will get into Revit o.k. Now, if you go the dxf route, you won't be able to explode the work once it is in Revit. Exploding will destroy the 3D elements. So... IFC may be the best bet, but I'm hoping someone will respond with a better solution.

Awesome, that definitely got everything in Revit. I will work with it more from here on out, thanks for the help Porter. :)

One thing to note is that when importing you should be importing origin to origin, not center to center. And I currently use the IFC method, although as stated isn't the most efficient.

I am trying to bring in ACAD MEP into Revit as workable objects. Are the objects from the IFC file ever editable Revit objects? When I partial explode it, just about everything goes away.

Nope. It is only a linked or imported cad file. The dwg/IFC has no revit functionality.
What... do you think these programs were made from the same company, packaged together and installed from the same EXE.
Interoperability between them has never been fluent. It's really depends on the file your trying to import and which way provides the least amount of missing data.

FWIW…

Error #1- Try importing with or the manual settings from the pull down menu. I have NEVER gotten a DWG to line up any other way than manually anyway.

Error #2- I get that one ever time, and as far as I can tell I have not lost much if anything.

Error #3- Sounds like your linked DWG is either out of your view range or otherwise somehow out of the view. When you choose one of the manual insert methods, it helps start your linked dwg in view.
