Voiding an area in a wall membrane layer

Is there a way to void an area of a wall membrane layer so that the membrane's SF reports correctly to a schedule?

I have a membrane layer of a wall that reports SF to a schedule. If I put an in-place void family on the wall and the void does not go all the way through the wall, the membrane SF does not reflect the hole, even though the void passes through the membrane layer. If the void goes all the way through the wall, then them membrane layer SF gets updated.
