I would like to know how to modify handrails to provide handrail extensions at the top and bottom of a run of stairs to meet ADA requirements (for example: 12" at top - 23" at bottom). I've included a detail showing what I'm looking for...

Go to the Autodesk Revit Content Distribution website and look in the baluster folder. There are a couple of options that you can use for starting and ending posts to create the ADA extensions.

Brad,

I think you will have the best luck with a baluster family that includes the extension and return. In the railings - balusters dialogue you can have specific starting and ending balusters. You'll probably have to fuss with heights a bit to get a clean connection between railing and baluster - and - it is possible.

Thanks guys. I'll give it a try.

Old thread, I know. Is this still the best way to do handrail extensions?

Never mind, I actually figured out something on my own! Super simple

Edit the handrail sketch
lengthen the sketch line
Split the sketch line
Blammo, instant handrail extension.

yeah, but without the curve downwards and return at a lower level as in the OP. Luckily, this sort of return is not mandated in the UK, or I'd go insane modelling it for every handrail profile!
