View Full Version : Shadow problems??

I don't know if it is something I'm doing wrong, but the shadows don't seem to be working too well in hidden line mode.

Attached image shadows-2.jpg shows the shadows working fine in shaded mode but shadows-1.jpg shows shadows missing. I've tried this on a couple of different files and get similar results.

One more example. This is whacked.

Has me stumped.

Is that R7 or a beta version?

I can't duplicate this behavior...try turning off OpenGL acceleration...?

Unfortunately it's already off.
I have one of those video cards that just don't want to work with Revit in OpenGL mode.

Can't duplicate that either.

Try View refresh or dynamically rotate the view and refresh. ?

OK, it's only taken me the better part of a day to track down, but there seems to be a bug in the shadowing.

If you have a material that has a 'Surface Pattern' with a Solid Fill pattern assigned to it, shadows will NOT show. All other patterns seems to work fine.

Can I get some confirmation on this from others please.

Appears to cast shadows over solid surface fill without a problem for me.

The same shadow problem
but only in hidden line view
Glass is a solid fill (192-192-192)

Opengl on / off is no difference (only much slower when off)
Video card ATI radeon 9700 latest drivers

Hmmm - something is not clicking in the sun and shade department!!

I am having some problems understanding the relative orientation of project and true North in relation to sunshine and shade. Sun seems to shine from the south no matter what input is given. Are there some input parameters that need to be considered for southern hemisphere orientation - or am I barking up the wrong shade tree??

I have noticed an oddity with the shading tool, which I like enormously in the little time I have had to play with it, where one has partially transparent objects they cast no shadows. I often use transparent blocks for surrounding buildings and have some simple tree forms that are transparent and though these have colour and body they are not, that I can see throwing any shadow.

Rather than use a solid fill pattern to change color of wall, set pattern to 'none' and change color using the Shading options (top most set of controls of material dialog)
