I was able to generate the roon name and number from the 2008 MEP version, but not the 2009 MEP version. It will say "SPACE" for all of the room name and I don't know what extra steps in the 2009 version that I'm missing. Anyone? Thanks,

Revit went from rooms in MEP to spaces, so what you have now is a space tag. I am assuming that you have already inserted spaces into your model, so now you have two options. First you can download the space naming utility which will automatically rename all of the "spaces" to their corresponding room names.
Second, you can modify the parameters of your space tag to look for the room name and numbers. Simply open the tag to edit, choose element properties for the name, and change it from space to room.

hummm...I am not following you. I do have the room name on the floor plan. I, however, can't generate a room schedule. I want to create an equipment schedule with the room name associate with the equipment so I would create a new schedule\electrical equipment, but neither room name nor space name would show up the name. Thanks.

I see, you're trying to create a schedule that displays the name. As far as I know you need to use spaces for the schedule.
Then you may want to check the height of the space, with VAV boxes I had trouble with them not including the VAV boxes because the top of the space was only 8'-0". The equipment will need to be contained in the space. What kind of equipment are you trying to schedule?

I have the electrical model, and I like to create a mechnical equipment schedule with all of the power connection sizing. I was able to do it in the 08 version, but the 09 version is not working right for me. The room name won't show up if I choose "room" and it would say "space" when I select space name.

If its saying space, then its using the default naming convention, space1, space 2..... So you will need to name the spaces. There are several ways to do this. You can create a space/room schedule, where you put the names and numbers side by side and just go down and edit the space names.
OR
Download the space naming utility extension and run that and it will rename all of the spaces for you.
Either way you can edit the space names in the schedule or under element properties for the spaces. The reason that it worked for 08 was that they had not implemented spaces, but used rooms instead. In 09 MEP got there own separate spaces, in case you needed to zone things differently etc. But for some reason they are named independently of the rooms, so that is why you need to go through and rename all of the spaces.

You are right. I just went into the space properties and saw there are Number = random number, Name = space, Room Number = actual room number, and Room Name = actual room name. How do I get the space naming utility extension? Thanks!

Here is a thread that tells you about the utility:

I can't tell you much more, as we have bim support staff that handles the updates and things for us. But it looks fairly easy to install.

I'm shocks that the software is not free.I guess you suppose to buy the basic version with bugs and pay extra for any enhancement or fix....frustration.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

If you're not a subscription customer, just create a space schedule. Layout the columns as follows: Space-Name, Room-Name, Space_number, Room_number
Now just go down the schedule and renmae the spaces to match the room names., and then repeat for the numbers. Not as fast as the space naming utility, but I did a building with 150 rooms in about 20 minutes.
I'm sorry I can't be more help.

.
The revised Space Tag should pick up the Room Name and Numbers for plan documentation.
So as far as scheduling goes, yes this is a good method to actually rename and number all the spaces to match the Architects Rooms.
But as far as scheduling goes you don't have to rename anything. Within the Space Schedule you could just schedule the Room Names and Room Numbers (don't schedule Space Names or Numbers) and then just rename the 2 column headers to say Space Names and Space Numbers. Less room for error, no?
I mean if the space is already talking to the room fluently and through a link why break the connection at that point. Just rename the schedule column headers. (we call this smoke and mirrors)
This method does not solve the problem of actually renaming all the spaces but if you can always defer the Space name and number to the linked room data why bother. The Space name and number just become redundant.

We use the procedure you mentioned for tagging our spaces in the plan, but that procedure falls short when you try and utilize th utilize the mroe advanced features of revit. For example you want the spaces defined when exporting gbxml to trace, HAP, or Energy Pro, as well as for the internal load calculation procedure. With that beign said we utilize a combination of these methods. We reference the room name and number for our space tag, but we also use the space naming utility for naming the rooms/spaces before export to Trace, or EnergyPro.
