Does anyone know how to translate SDTS data to display in Autodesk Map 2005 as topographic elevation lines? I have successfully imported and downloaded SDTS 10m data (7.5' quad) data into my map, but just get the elevation grid. Is there a way to convert the grid to topo lines?

I think you would need to build a surface using that SDTS data
and then you will be able to create contour (topo) lines.

Michael is right, you will need to download the SDTS2DEM.exe to convert the file into a format that the Surface object can use. You can find it here:

http://data.geocomm.com/dem/sdts2dem.html

I have used it for years and it works great, i have run into some quirks in Map 3D when trying to coordinate conversions while importing the dem data. Autodesk is looking into it.

Hope this helps,

Jeremiah

I use the SDTS2DEM conversion tool pretty often for creating contours from SDTS files and haven't had any problems. I also use the ESRI tools for part of the process too - the great thing about being a multifaceted user. Having both ESRI and Autodesk products really do help smooth out A LOT of glitches.
