I've recieved some drawings that have the origins all messed up. Column Lines 'A' and '1' (which we usually use as Insertion Points) from the Architect are set at X= -1446' 7 1/2" Y= -2329' 0 5/8" Z= 0' 0" (why would they do that?). It's a wonder my Limits are *OVER* and the drawings do funny things. Upon opening these XREF Overlays, I find that the Layer 'CADPIPE_INFO' has a Point set at 0,0,0. This is where we like to have the Column Lines A & 1 intersect to make it easy placing the Grid Insert Point and knowing our origin right off the top, not some obscure negative number. It also helps the other trades when it comes time to coordinate all these drawings.

I open the Xref in question and use the UCS Origin command and set the new origin to 0,0,0 at the A1 intersection, ID Point command shows me it's set to 0,0,0. Save the changes. Back to my drawing, Detach Xref, Reload it, the Xref goes back to the original *OVER* Limits location. What good is UCS Origin command if it doesn't keep the new Origin I set to 0,0,0 and save to the file? I've tried erasing the CADPIPE_INFO Point but that does nothing. I hope I won't have to actually move every object on every drawing using the A1 Intersection as my base point but that's what it looks like must happen. Unless someone out there knows of a solution. I have over a hundred drawings that need changing. Arch, Structural, MEP, etc. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

try the BASE command to choose your new 0,0,0 point for insertion.

That did the trick, thank you. Glad I backed up the originals, though. I found out that my CadPipe program doesn't recognize the Pipe it creates after using the base command. All the pipe I've drawn so far is simply a 3D object now. Previously, I was able to double click a piece of pipe or fitting and query it, showing me material, length, size, etc. Even print out a BoM after finishing the drawing. Really nice program although buggy still. Thanks again for the help.
