the problem I'm having is getting my room tags to show up in my floor plan but not my color scheme... can anyone help?

Turn off room tags in your color plan view?

In Visibility Graphics (VV or VG), you can expand the Rooms option under 'Model Categories' and uncheck Color Fill...

This will give you the rooms, so you can have the room tags turned on, but it will eliminate the color.

Since Room Tags are view specific you can delete them from the color scheme without worries.
