Hi!
anybody has any suggestion on best tool to create 3D model of a tunnel??
we have 2D drawings of the design; but want to create the 3D drawings as well. Is Revit the right tool to do this? any other tool/process??
any insight is much appreciated.

PS: I know Civil 3D forum is the best place to post this question; but I am also interested to see if modeling tunnels is possible outside Civil 3D as well.
what do you use now? also, if you can show either a sketch or 2D drawing of what you're intention is, then i'm sure you'll get a much more informative set of suggestions/ideas and replies from people.

I would use an in place sweep, all you need to provide is the path and the profile of the tunnel.

With Civil3d and Revit communication through ADSK files I would try with Civil 3d for the main model and continue in Revit for detailing and other stuff... Please post any results because it would be nice to see how this new file format works for you.

But how can u define a curved path (on both plan and elevation)
in sweep ?
I believe most tunnels are not straight.

have you tried the new conceptual design tools in 2010?
check image.
if you do have a civil 3D, it will make life easier, but you can achieve this in 2010

Thanks for your updated information.
I have seen some on-line video demo about
the new free form modeling capability in version 2010.
But it seems to me that the shape is formed by randomly
picking on surfaces and dragging by eyeball.
What I'm thinking is how to utilize a real 3d path which
(comes from may be Civils 3d or other programme) has
correct xyz values, defines exactly the tunnel route.
Sweep absolutely not possible since only 2d path with
assigned workplane is allowed.
Am I right ?
