View Full Version : Fatal view errors in 2010

I'm continuing to get fatal errors in 2010, most likely due to hardware acceleration. I hate that because everything runs SO much faster and smoother using hardware acceleration.
Is there any way to find out 100% FOR SURE whether my graphics card is compatible or not? My card specs are:
nVIDIA Quadro FX550 128MB
Supports DirectX 9.1 and OpenGL 2.0
I have tried the 162.65 driver from November 2007, listed on nVIDIA's website as the partner-certified driver for all Autodesk products, including Revit (although not 2010 I'm sure).
I have tried the latest 182.46 driver released just 2 weeks ago.
Both cause the "error drawing contents" message and fatal errors with hardware acceleration turned on in Revit 2010. I don't get this. On paper it seems like it should be fine, and I have always had good luck with Quadro FX graphics cards with OpenGL acceleration enabled in past Revit releases. What gives here?

Could the fatal errors by chance be related to the use of the antialiasing option? Is that something done in the program or done by the graphics card?

Here Revit 2010 is working without any crashes. Try to change some of the settings in video driver.

Go back to a couple of earlier drivers... Try a few different ones until it stops crashing.

That's going to be a pain because it's never the same thing that causes the fatal error. Last time it happened, I was just going to load a family I think. Then it said "error drawing contents of window", to which I said OK, then got a fatal error.
I just never know when it's going to happen, so it's like I'm "drawing in fear" that it could happen at any time. There's really no sure-fire way to KNOW that a particular driver is going to work 100%.

I've noticed this too. Let's post SRs on the problem. I've had it happen on my Radeon-based laptop, but the FireGL on my desktop still seems more stable in this regard.
My view was closing on a titleblock view with no view on the sheet :-P
And like you say, it's never the same thing twice that will kill off a view -- unlike with OpenGL where a given view would always be stable OR always kill the view with acceleration enabled.
Go figure!

Actually, today was the first time I actually got an "error drawing window contents" message. The other day I was getting fatal errors left and right with no prior warnings.

support request filed, we'll see what they say.

are these "Fatal view errors" similar to the "open gl error 12" that i had in revit architecture 2009?
http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=98742
or something completely different?
(just installed 2010 today, hoping to iron-out all the bugs so i can distribute it to our office next week/month)

No it's not that. Mostly I was just getting the dreaded "fatal error" message in Revit, with the option to save a recovery file, or just exit without saving.
Today, however, I got the message about "error drawing the contents of this window, the view will be closed" with an OK button. I hit OK, and immediately got a fatal error after that.

fun,
now i did get an error once in sheet when i was editing a view
it said it had an error, similar to yours and had to close the view
it closed the view, which when it was my only open view in the file was a bad thing. (b/c it closed the file and didnt save anything)
it was a file i had inherited from a co-worker, so i have no clue what they did to cause that problem...
but if i work on the view, not in sheet view, then it works fine and does not cause any problems.

Well now I'm playing with 2010 on my home computer, which is a Pentium D dual-core 3.2 GHz machine and only 2GB RAM. I built this machine in 2006 and it has run Revit 9.1, 2008, and 2009 just fine. It has a Quadro FX 540 128MB graphics card. I tried turning on hardware acceleration, started a new blank template, did some stuff in that file, and eventually it crashed just like the others. I was opening the Options menu to change some locations in the Places menu just as I got the "error drawing contents of window" message, and then a fatal error right after that.
I forgot about the journal file, so I decided to check it. Here's what happened in the last few seconds before the program terminated. The first line "Jrn.MouseMove 0, 78, 23" I believe is when I clicked on the R at the top left to open the menu to get to the Options button:

I don't have a single crash on all 5 computer that I installed Revit 2010. All 5 computers are very different. Some old some new. You should try download Revit 2010 again. Or you are doing something wrong ? Or you are the only unlucky reviteer:)

I have loaded it twice at work now, and once at home, all the same issues.
