have been downloading custom windows from web

however, notice that the windows come a default sill height
all our headers are at the same height 6' 8"
how do you change the default from sill to header?

I think you'll probably just have to edit the types in each family such that the default sill height plus window height = 6' 8".

Either that or edit all of the actual families so that the Default Sill Height measures to the top of the window opening. That's a bad idea, though, since I don't think that parameter can be changed at all (hard coded in the window family template), so the "sill height" name could cause confusion if it's measuring to the head of the window.

We have a few windows that are like this - with the sill height actually measuring to the window head, and they're a PITA.

If you make a type parameter in a family, when you change that parameter in the project it will affect all the "instances" of that family. If on the other hand, you designate the parameter to be an instance parameter,. when you change that parameter in the project it will only affect that one instance of the family. Is that what you are asking?
