On Friday, our Autodesk reseller and Autodesk AEC Territory Manager came to our office to demonstrate the new features of Revit 2010 and discuss our opinions of the new release. As expected, we were not very excited about what we saw, especially since we had seen it already and knew what wasn't fixed. To be fair there are a few things that are nice, but nothing that significantly improves our efficiency on a daily basis.
We talked about our long history with un-fixed bugs, ignored enhancement requests, etc. Some of these items are now hitting their 8th Anniversary. We discussed that we would probably NOT be upgrading this year unless we were on a team with consultants who were using 2010.
As many others are voicing their disappointment with the new release, I was wondering if others are going to skip this one as well.

Erick, we're jumping to 2010 straightaway for the display speed. We got really tired of how slow 2009 was in comparison to 2008 and this fixes that issue. We just couldn't resist this feature/
On the downside views will crash in Revit for no apparent reason. Were it not for keyboard shortcuts the Ribbon would be slower, though I do like some of the ways the tools have been reorganized. 2010 uses more memory than previous releases.
As you note, though -- this release is even lighter than 2009 in apparent new features, and it's really disappointing; makes you wonder where all your money is going

Too many crashes on mundane tasks, otherwise I would do it immediately.
I'll happily upgrade if they issue a service pack soon.

I was planning on upgrading immediately, as i see a large graphical performance increase in 2010 at home. But, the computers in the office dont have as much RAM as mine does at home, and im not seeing the performance benefit here yet.
Im going to hopefully get some testing done this week, and make a call after that...

We are keeping 2009 installed; adding 2010 for users to get aclimated this week,
and doing training.
Current jobs in production will stay in 2009.
New jobs will be started in 2010. ( already doing one.)
cheers....................

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like the diplay speed improvements may be good, but offset by stability issues. I'm sure some of the stability issues will be fixed in the first service pack.
I'm still not sold on the overall workflow efficiency being improved. I see tasks that now take more steps than before. I am worried that new users (6-12 month experience) that have just begun to acclimate to Revit will see a big setback in efficiency with little gain to offset it.
We were sold that everything was rebuilt from the ground up so that it would allow them to do more with it in the future. I'll buy that for now, but they better deliver in the future.
Are there any other big reasons that you are upgrading other than display performance? Is it just that you might as well get your money's worth from your subscription?!

I am keeping 2009 going for all the paying jobs and will continue to fine tune the keyboard shortcuts ready for the WU1 release which will hopefully resolve the niggling problems I am having and the stability problems other are reporting.
Once it is robust and stable, I will use it for real work. For me, the display speed improvement is worth the upgrade.

We decided not to, many of the new features aren't of interest to us and many of the bugs that annoy every day still annoy.

I upgraded after I added ram to my Mac Pro and Vista 64. I installed Revit 2010 64. I don't like the new ribbon. I guess I'm so use to the old Revit. Why did they change something that worked well? DirectX works well after I updated my video drivers. I could not get Open GL to work.

We're not in much of a rush, not when you have people like ARumple and LRaiz expressing doubts. After all these years, after all the times I have been looking forward to a new release.. Shame.
