OK, so I might be speaking too soon, but we were having major problems exporting to DWG from large projects with many instances of many different linked files. Sometimes the links wouldn't wind up in the DWG, even with the file name shortened and no non-standard Windows characters in the names. We were linking in the 'guts' of our units for multi-unit housing 'cause groups didn't work for us, so we'd have 100 or more linked instances of five or six different files per floor level...
OK, so I just updated one of these problem projects to R7, and everything exported properly! Woohoo! I really hope it's fixed for good, for this was starting to become a frightening issue...

..of course now maybe the groups will work for you too.

Maybe it's just an idle boast, but we beat them up on this one.
Looks like they listened.

I'm wary of Groups. Just had some *terrible* moments in the past, and we're so burnt we avoid them altogether. So I'm hoping they work, but man, I'm skeptical and waiting until I see it work. :D
But yeah, this whole thing is moot if we start using Groups more. But it was so disheartening to find the linked file DWG export problem, after using Revit for years and never having even a minor issue with exporting backgrounds for consultants... So I'm very happy to have it fixed!

Don't be afraid to jump back in the water. Groups are much improved in 7, particularly with a focus on repeating units like hotel rooms, offices, apartments, etc.
I encourage people to try a quick project from scratch using groups. Try laying out a typical floor plan and let us know what you think.

That brings up a good point, how do upgraded unit groups perform? Is ungrouping the regrouping enough? I only ask because I have several projects with unit groups that are still in schematics that I would like to bring forward.
thanks,

I'll be tossing a set of CD's we just issued where we used groups at 7.0. We made it through, but there were plenty of times it looked like we'd have to ungroup everything. It will be interesting to see how the storage unit groups on the back of the apartmants with the roof that always ended up underground will behave.

We were also having problems exporting a campus layout in 6.1. We just tried it in 7.0 and the buildings now end up in the right places, however, we are seeing what appears to be scale bars (?) associated with each instance of a link.
Anyone else seeing this ?

Beegee,
I don't think that's scale bar... it looks more like some kind of geometry that you may have hidden (check visiblity) ... maybe a 3D Text extruded (from the look of it) :-?

Nope, theres nothing there in the parent or child files that I can see.
It only shows in the dwg export.
