View Full Version : Revit 2010 - Solid Blend – Vertix connection

I’m sure everyone is playing around with the new mass modelling tools. One tool I can’t seem to find in new modelling tools that are in the older Revit modelling is the Vertix connection within a Solid Blend. It is a very powerful tool, especially for triangulated faces.
Has anyone been able to add Vertix connections to a Solid Blend?
Thanks

Hi Brian,
In Revit 2010 Massing Families, the "Add Edge" tool can add vertex connections. Invoke the tool, select the first vertex, then the second. You will note that if you click on an edge rather than a vertex, the edge will be split (and then you can connect the split to an existing vertex, or split an edge at the other profile). The tool also allows you to split two profiles at once by mousing over the surface connecting them and clicking.
To remove added connections, select the resulting edge and hit the "Delete" key. You can do this with almost all edges, whether they were created by vertex connections or not.

Thanks Nathan
That works very well.

Just another one,
I nottice the "Add Edge" only works when you insert it in the direction of the blend, sweep or extrusion. If you have a four sided top face of a blend (or sweep) that you have warped. Is there a way to put a line across the diagionals to make it into two triangle faces?

An edge can be added by clicking 2 points as well to get what you are asking for. The add edge tool has 2 modes of input. If move the cursor along the face the line representing the edge you can add previews across the face of the mass. If you click you will get the added edge across the whole face.
If you get close to the edge of the face the preview line disappears and you will get snap points. You can then use 2 clicks to establish a diagonal edge. Using this input method you can add edges from corner to corner as you described (or any other diagonal for that matter).

When creating a mass, I created a simple rectangular "extrusion", but when I then select the Add Edge tool, on the end of the rectangular box, it will only let me add an edge that is vertical to the end. Is there an additional keystroke, to let me add the face "horizontally" (parallel to the plane it was created on)? The effect I want to try to create, is to add a horizontal band onto the rectangle.

Hi Scott,
It sounds like what you would like to do is what the "add profile" tool does. Give that a try and see if it works. While you are at it, you might want to experiment with toggling the "xray mode".

I have also been finding it difficult to "add edge" to a void form.
Yes, I may second question I had been trying to "add edge" to the top of a blend without any luck.
Attached is what I want to do, with top face. I've cheated in creating it.
Thanks
Brian
