Add Offset Option to the Align Command
I would like to be able to align objects with an offset. Sometimes you want to place items close to a wall, line or edge but not exactly on it. The temporary dimensions don't always snap to the geometry points that you want to reference which means that you have to start dragging witness lines. For instance, if you drop a piece of furniture in plan the temp dims often reference the center of the nearest wall and the center of the object. This is useless for alignment. I would like to be able to drop in a sofa then use the align with offset to set it 3" from the wall face.
I would use it for door and window openings as well. My boss often comes by and says, "Make sure we have (X) distance between this wall and the (window, door, other object) I want to put a (counter, dresser, shelf, table) there." When I click on the offending door or window the temp dims often show center of the item to the center of the wall or other nearby geometry. I then have to drag witness lines again. It would be nice if I could just type AL, set an offset distance, click wall face, click edge of opening, done.
RE: Add Offset Option to the Align Command
Just wishing for this again yesterday. I came here to start a thread and found my old one (which I had forgotten about). :) So here's a post to bump it up and see if anyone else votes.
RE: Add Offset Option to the Align Command
I agree, having "offset" functionality would be a great addition.
