Piping connectors to Equipment

I have a reach-in freezer family that is categorized as Specialty Equipment. The equipment has a sanitary pipe connector for the drain. It also has some electrical connections. When I place the family in a project and select it, I have the option to create a power circuit (button on the Options Bar) but I do not get a button to "Create a Sanitary System".

The only way I have been able to get it to work is to categorize the unit as a plumbing fixture (which it is NOT). So the question is why am I not able to create systems from families that have specific system connectors regardless of the family category? Aren't the systems based on the connectors?
